There is Something Special when Taking Charge of Your Child’s Education

For years, we have seen something very alarming in the Public School system. And I believed that there were only three choices when it comes to schooling:

1. Public School (full-time, no control over what children learn)
2. Private School (full-time, some control over what children learn)
3. Homeschool (full control over what children learn)

While Private school is a great option – it is full-time education. Meaning that my child will spend over a thousand hours in school each year. We really wanted to spend off-days with our kids and not have to worry about attendance so much.

Because of this, we opted for homeschooling, in order to be able to pick and choose the curriculum and the influences that we wanted for our children.

However, it can be hard for the homeschooling family to provide extra-curricular classes and activities to their children such as playing sports, art, performing arts, etc.

Many families end up driving their children to extra-curricular activities on the daily and also need to worry about teaching the CORE subjects outside of those activities.

And… that’s when my husband and I thought…

“There’s got to be a place where families can come and get support and resources for their schooling journey”

“A three day/week model”

Elevation Community School was born out of that – a resource center where families can get support, according to what their family needs.

Starting this August, we will be open to serve your child/ren three days per week. They’ll be getting the most of their education by taking part in core subjects and/or enrichment classes for three days a week – and will spend the rest of their week with you.

Some parents feel comfortable teaching their child math but need extra help with the extracurricular classes such as art, physical education, music, etc.

While other parents would want a qualified teachers to teach the math instead – while the parents focus on other activities with their child/ren.

YOU as the parent get to have full control over the educational choices for your child and we are here to support those decisions and help you make the best out of your educational journey.

Because we believe in quality versus quantity…

Our student enrollment is currently
limited to 40 students

Unfortunately, as schools scale and become larger, they lose that sense of “touch” and that sense of “community” that children and parents value so much. This year, we will be serving grades K – 5th.

Our goal is to keep the class sizes small – this allows us to focus on providing the best educational experience possible.

Real stories from real parents
“We pulled our kids out because…”

We asked parents “what is your reason behind pulling your child from the public schools?” And here are some comments from the 100+ that we received.

“1. Genuinely, love being with my children (yes, I have my moments of insanity but wouldn’t change it) 2. I love teaching them, it’s the best and most rewarding job I’ve ever had. 3) Adjusting the teaching methods/curriculum/pace to best fit your child. 4) I don’t trust 1 teacher (or any adult) to truly be able to take care of 20+ students and make sure all needs are being met both academically and emotionally. 5) I refuse to accept that bullying “makes a kid stronger” and it happens constantly in school setting because no one is monitoring most situations. 6) The ability to teach what I want and when I want to my children.”

“I’d never let my kid go to the school I taught at 😪

“I wanted more time with my kids and for them to truly grow up together. They went to school for 3/4 of the year and I saw the difference. It felt like we were robots every day.”

“I like that I can dive in or back off from academics as needed. We have much more time freedom with this lifestyle.”

“- home schooling provides a completely individualized experience for each child to meet their needs which simply cannot happen in public schools with the student/teacher ratios
– bullying
– school food
– social pressures of drugs & alcohol”

“Low educational standards, school, violence, bullying, not supporting individual family values are the ones that jump to mind first as reasons not to have a child in a school. A system that is too big to really work well with individual needs is another. A system that allows bad teachers to stay and stops good teachers from doing the job they’ve been hired to do is another reason for leaving schools or not entering them in the first place.”

“Getting to spend more time with your child, getting to know your child better, having the opportunity to offer an education that fits your child’s personality and needs, getting a chance to offer an education that makes the most of your child’s strengths and takes advantage of opportunities to travel or to participate in local activities or events, are some other reasons.”

“I was tired of feeling scared that I would drop my child off and never see him again for one. That fear of, “will it be his school next?” Made me sick to my stomach. My son also has learning issues, which over the past year I’ve found is directly correlated with the memorization aspect of learning.”

“Because I was a teacher. That’s it. I saw the direction our schools were going and the behavior of these kids ( and parents) and said… no thank you.”

“A)Public school failed my oldest & are no longer safe for any of my kids, let alone my youngest with special needs B)It works great for our family & has for many years C)It’s so freeing not to have to be bound by others’ schedules & expectations”

“Studies show kids don’t need an 8 hour day. I think kids learn better hands on. I prefer they are able to socialize with their peers then to be stuck beside them in silence. I think all kids are different and should be taught individually. There is so much that we don’t learn in schools. I worry about the fact that the suicide rate is rising in young children (7/8). We want more family time and the ability to travel without it affecting their place in school.”
